Strategy 3: Help your peers keep track of their goals
You can help the peer researcher think about their interests, and their strengths and weaknesses. You can create a safe space for the peer to record what they are thinking and feeling, not just about their job on the research team, but also in their life.
You can help your peer decide if they want to keep a journal, notes, or record themselves on a tape or video. You and your peer can then read, watch, or talk about their ideas. Together you can discover the things they do well, the skills they need to work on, and new ideas they want to explore.
You can also help your peer think about the work they are doing to meet their goals. You can help them figure out what they need to do to reach their goals, or what type of support would help them reach their goals.
Keeping Track of Goals
- Write your goals down in a notebook. Use your notebook to write down how you are doing.
- Ask people if they are happy or unhappy about how they are doing.
- Get emails or instructions from your boss that say how you are doing.
- Talk to other people about your goals. Share your goals with your job coach, your coworkers, and your team leader.
