Strategy 1: Help the peer set goals to grow as a researcher
Goals are important. Goals remind us what we want to do. Goals also motivate us to keep working hard. We can set goals for all sorts of things. When you are a peer supporter, you can have goals to learn and do new things on the research team. You can help your peers think about what new things they want to try when doing research.
There are many things other researchers want to learn how to do. Can you think of other research skills you would like to learn?
- Learn how to interview someone about their life and experiences
- Learn how to ask good questions during interviews
- Learn how to use a new computer program or app
- Learn how to analyze data collected during an interview or focus group
- Learn how to analyze data collected using a survey or questionnaire
- Learn how to create slides for a presentation
- Learn how to use Excel
- Learn how to make a website
To help your peers think about what they would like to learn, you can share the types of things you have learned to do while working on the research team.
Try it yourself. Use this worksheet to work together with your peers to set goals about research.
