Everyone communicates differently. As a peer supporter, you will help your peer communicate with you, the research team, and other people involved in the research.

It is important for you to spend time with your peer to learn how they prefer or choose to communicate. Then you can communicate with your peer in ways that work for them, and help your research partners do that too.

Some of the strategies you may use are:

  1. Setting up a regular meeting time and place
  2. Communicating in ways that meet the peer's needs and preferences/choices
  3. Role modeling how to be a good communicator
  4. Advocating to include peers and coworkers during research team meetings

You will learn more about these strategies in this section.

Go to the next page to read a story about a peer supporter who used these strategies.
