Strategy 2: Help your peers set personal and professional life goals
We just learned about setting goals about learning how to do research. But there are other types of goals, too!
Developing personal and professional goals can help a person get what they want out of life. Personal goals are goals you want for yourself that have to do with where you live, how you live, and who you live with. Personal goals can also be about new activities or interests.
Here is a list of examples of personal goals:
- Move to my own apartment
- Exercise three days a week
- Take a trip to the fair with my friends
- Move to a different city
- Use the bathroom independently
- Have my own pet
Can you think of other types of personal goals? What is a personal goal you have?
Professional goals are about the type of job you would like, or things you would like to do while working. Professional goals are not just about your current job, but also about jobs you would like to do in the future.
Here is a list of examples of professional goals:
- Work part time
- Work full time
- Work as a teacher
- Take care of people’s pets
- Work for a sports team or as a mechanic
- Get a license and start my own business
