The transition from youth to adulthood is important and can be hard. It can be more difficult for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

People still don’t know enough about which transition services help young people with IDD the most. Research can help find the answers. Young people with IDD and their families have the most experience with transition. Research into what transition supports they want and need will have the biggest effects on successful transition.

In this research study, youth with IDD had these main concerns:

These concerns should be priorities for research and services.

Peer support is one way to make sure that young adults with IDD get the right support as they transition to adulthood. Peer Support can also help young adults to engage in research about transition.
